Long-time AGUA member and Community Activist Josie Nieto was selected as an award winner for Women’s History Month by Tulare County Supervisor Eddie Valero! She is being honored for her activism, organizing her community towards long-term safe and affordable drinking water solutions.
A coalition of advocates for communities living with contaminated drinking water today praised the passage of AB 217 (E. Garcia) from the Assembly Environmental Safety and Toxic Waste Committee. The bill would provide the ongoing funding needed to deliver safe water to California children and families through a small fee on water users.
Today the Safe and Affordable Drinking Water Fund Coalition released the following statement from Phoebe Seaton, Co-Director, Leadership Counsel for Justice and Accountability on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s State of the State Address.

We are thrilled to announce that Community Water Center’s Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director Laurel Firestone was appointed today by Governor Gavin Newsom as a Board Member of the State Water Resources Control Board. The Board has broad regulatory oversight and administers significant funding resources impacting California’s water, including access to safe and affordable drinking water.
